    A Ghost Is Born

I’m not sure what I can say sarcastically about Wilco that hasn’t been put into words by Pitchfork Media but those out there who have followed the semi-regular postings on one of my other sites about what I like will know that I am a Wilco fanatic and am now counting the days until June 8 when their new album comes out. See also remarks about Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, the Flaming Lips and a cast of thousands on The Half Closed Eye.

Now if the television networks keep from cancelling anymore of my favorite shows (see Farscape and Serenity) it might be a good year. Oh wait. Too late.

Once every hundred thousand years or so…

    So by now it appears

that we are on some sort of schedule with the Monkey Project comics. Well, guess again! We are only casting the appearance of a regular sort of schedule and even that is precarious. I’ve not set any sort of goals with regards to frequency of updates or set any expectations that can’t be broken by things like a trip to Mardi Gras or anything out of the blue that may take precedence over doodling. That said, I’m hoping to have a Friday comic this week, two comics out next week on Monday and Wednesday, and a Friday comic if not a Wednesday comic the week after (depending on traffic and travel plans). As far as March goes, it’s a total crap shoot.

Again, the comic raises questions of fundamental morality: Did Cap’n Grey Goose pass the flight test? If not, why? Who is Decky and why does he look like Pelts? How many times has Felicia’s arcade been invaded by costumed interlopers? Does Paul have anything but black T-shirts in his wardrobe? How will Marlowe escape detection by the Dynamic Duo?

    the plot thickens

Can’t art and commerce just get along?

As you may imagine, we here at the Monkeyproject are always on the lookout for monkey-related whatsits that we can refer to back here. We do this because, after all, we are supposed to be a site dedicated to something to do with monkeys, and because it’s easier than actually coming up with real, original content. (Seriously, compiling a “Favorite Albums of 2003” list is hard.)

To that end, I recently found this bad boy while searching the World Wide Inter-Web for affordable, yet tastful, velvet Elvis paintings. It simply screamed to be mentioned here, in our little blog of blogging, since it combines three of the greatest things in the world: monkeys, poker, and velvet paintings. And so I have. Mentioned it, I mean. So, there you go. Enjoy.

    My work here is done.

    Friday!

Well, I feel like I’ve accomplished something. 5 strips! Which is what I consider about a week and two-thirds of comic, so I’m rounding up to 2. I think this little arc will at least establish the main characters and locations (primarily the arcade and the bar). More to be revealed later. For those of you taking notes, the monkey is #17 or Marlowe (at least that’s what he calls himself), the arcade’s owner is Felicia, and the tough guy is Paul.

Who are these people? Why do they know each other? Where can a monkey find a couch? What does Felicia want to do with Paul’s truck and muscles (get your minds out of the gutter)? The answer to these questions depend on the answer to this question: Can we make it through week 3?

    Odds are looking up

    If you haven’t noticed

…we now have some sort of comic strip at the top of the page. This has been hinted at before, but has never actually appeared. So far the cast consists of a scientist, his boss, an as-yet unnamed monkey (well for you guys anyway), a tough guy with a dark complexion, some lady named Felicia, and a Mid-State Vending and Arcade Supplies delivery guy. The monkey has escaped from some sort of laboratory (as evidenced by preceding strips) and has snuck his way into an arcade. What will happen? Will there be humor? Action? Romance? More strips?

    Don’t hold your breath…
